Hongvilay Thongsamouth

HT 2Hongvilay Thongsamouth is the managing partner at Murphy, Vu, Thongsamouth & Chatterjee, LLP (MVTC).

Hongvilay was selected as a 2015 Super Lawyer Rising Star. She is honored to be a part of this exclusive list as no more than 2.5 percent of lawyers are named Rising Stars. Super Lawyers is a rating service of outstanding lawyers who have attained a high-degree of peer recognition and professional achievement. The Super Lawyers and Rising Stars lists are published nationwide in Super Lawyers Magazine and in various news outlets all across the country.

Hongvilay represents clients in all aspects of the divorce process, including but not limited to, child custody, child and spousal support, division of assets and debts, prenuptial agreements, marital settlement agreements, and domestic violence restraining orders. She now focuses only on family law, but has an extensive immigration law background.

As a former refugee, Hongvilay believes her role is not simply to navigate clients through the difficult and complex legal system, but to also educate clients about the system itself and their rights within that system.

Prior to joining the firm Hongvilay was an Equal Justice Fellow at the Asian Pacific Islander Legal Outreach, a non profit legal organization providing services to low income and marginalized Asian Pacific Islander communities in the areas of domestic violence, family law, immigration, elder abuse and human trafficking.

Hongvilay received her Juris Doctor from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law, and her Bachelor of Arts from the University of California, San Diego. She is an active member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association and is fluent in Lao and Thai.
